Amazing dog walked on a broken leg two miles to lead vets to her puppies

This is an amazing story of Vera the greyhound who was found wandering around a market in southern Spain, with her front leg broken and extremely emaciated.

Lianne Powell took Vera to a local vet, Ellen Sobry, where they noticed that she was producing milk leading them to believe she had recently given birth.

Lianne and local vet Ellen search the area were Vera the greyhound was found but had no luck in recovering the puppies.

But Vera the greyhound was determined to lead them there herself with her broken leg, Vera led the women on a two mile trek, walking directly to an abandoned car where ten newborn puppies waiting for Vera to come back.

‘She knew where she was going,’ said Ellen. ‘She led us to them, it was incredible – I couldn’t believe what I saw.

‘That dog didn’t know us, we’d only met her like an hour before so it was really incredible how she decided to trust and show us where they were.’

‘We see more strays every day, this is the end of the hunting season, it’s bad at the moment.

‘They have no use for them anymore, they’re used for hunting and when they slow down they just throw them out.’

Vera and her puppies are recovering at local vet Ellen’s surgery, Clinivet Turre, while working with Ibizan Hound Rescue in Murcia to try to find homes for Vera and her pups to move to once their well again.
